How I realized the importance of water?

Just when I was meandering in and out of my house, my mom called out to me and told me there was something wrong with the water pumping motor. I reached out to her as soon as I heard her voice. The thought of an empty tank was constantly bugging her. She added that without water it would not be possible for her and us to do the daily chores. I ran towards my room, which took me a while, to call my electrician. The person who I can rely on with my eyes shut. At times, he is lackadaisical and doesn't respond well.

As usual, he told me that he was busy and would not be able to come. I told him that it was urgent and there's nothing we could do without his help. That's when I realized how important an electrician is. I sound like a square peg in a round hole in such situations. Jokes apart, I insisted him to visit us the following day and the call ended on an assuring note from his side. Meanwhile, we had the whole day ahead of us and thoughts of water running dry. I will explain one by one what everyone did to save water that day, starting with me:

I didn't flush twice, which is what I do oft-times. During brushing, I took a miniscule quantity of water to drench my brush and teeth. While I was at it, I kept the tap off. Sometimes I proceed with the tap running. When I was done, I again took a smidgen of water and rinse my teeth. Now comes the Bathing part. Usually, I use the shower mounted at the top for this process but that day I took the help of hand shower, which can be turned on and off depending on one's need. There is a plethora of things that I did that day to save water. Just mentioning a few here for your ready reference in case you find yourself in such a fix.

* Did not wash any clothes that day
* Took less water out of the purifier
* Washed my hands less often
and so on.

Now, it's my Mom's turn.

Her attempts to save the water were no different than me. She also used less water for her daily chores - brushing, Bathing, et cetera

* Usually, she utilizes a great deal of water for cleaning utensils but that day she managed to curb her usage.

* She relied less on water for water-centric tasks and kept tabs on other people - Gardner, Maid, Dad and I.

* Following in my footsteps(I should say otherwise) she didn't wash any clothes. Don't rely on our maid for this purpose(washing clothes)... you know...

Dad: Hey!

Yeah, you heard it right. It's my Dad.

Although he didn't contribute much but even a tiny step towards a noble cause counts. In our case it was not noble. It was something that had to be done.

* Usually he expends a good deal of water for Bathing, but that day he held his horses. To put it simply, he used less water that day. He also did some other things, which I have already cited above and there is absolutely no point in mentioning them here again.

*Someone rings the door bell*

Maid: Didi Main aa gayi. That's what she calls my mom... Didi...

You all know that the moon reflects the light of the sun to light up the sky at night. Just a fact: It takes 1.3 second approx. for moonlight to reach earth.

For a moment, let's keep all these facts and heavenly bodies aside and get back to the main topic.

Though she didn't do anything on her part yet with the help of my mom she managed to retain some water. The task of a domestic helper is to clean a house thoroughly for which he/she needs ample supply of water. Well, that day she must have realized the paramountcy of water. If not, she will one day...

Mom: Siddharth. Get up and see. There's someone at the door..

*Meanwhile I opened the door*

Gardner: Ram Ram! Bauji

*Not promoting any religion here. It's just the salutation that he uses.*

Me: Ram Ram! Aur Rahul bhai sab thik thak. Baaki kaam ho gaya...

Not making a fuss here, he also didn't do anything on his part and how could he... he was not aware of the matter. It was Mom and I, who told him to use the available water efficaciously. A fair deal of water goes into watering our plants and a small vegetable farm that we have.

If we had not used the water judiciously that day, we would have run out of it. Not only in such situations but everyday, water should be used judiciously as it is an essential source for all living organisms on this planet and we can't last a day without it. With this, I would like to give a rest to my fingers. Till then...

Conserve water. Live prosperously.
